It is with great sorrow that the Egyptian Society Nephrology and Transplantation mourns the legend of Nephrology in Egypt, the Arab world, and the whole world, and one of the founders of the Egyptian, Arab and African societies of Nephrology & Transplantation, the icon of science and high morals, generation after generation, Prof Rashad Barsoum.. We lost a great scientist, a wise doctor, an extraordinary lecturer, a teacher, a father, a friend, and guiding light.
Among the very many prizes that he received were: the first class Medal of Science, the Nile Prize, the State Merit Award of Medical Science and the Roscoe Robinson Award.
He was the former Head of the department of Internal Medicine, Kasr AlAini Hospital, Cairo University, as well as its Kidney Dialysis & Nephrology Unit and King Fahd Urology & Nephrology Center. He also headed the Sector of Medical studies at the Supreme Council of Universities, and the Central Scientific Committee for the Egyptian Medical Board.
He was the founder of the African Association of Nephrology, and the President of the Egyptian and the Arab Societies of Nephrology. He was also the Secretary General of the International Society of Nephrology
Prof Rashad will always remain in our hearts an inspiration to our minds, a role model to follow and a guide to pursue
And unto God and to Him we shall return.
